Food Travels
Thanks to a printout from the Queens Botanical Garden I learned that fruits and vegetables in the U.S. travel, on average, 1,300 to 2,000 miles from farm to table.
WOW! That's a large carbon foot making a large carbon footprint!
I'm gonna start looking for more locally grown food and help to reduce or eliminate (yeah, right) wasteful energy consumption.

Now this is a good idea!
A U.N. expert suggested last year that one way to combat climate change is to go vegetarian. The Flemish city of Ghent has responded by calling for schools to serve meat-free meals on Thursdays, which it has designated as noncompulsory "veggie days".
I don't see why our schools can't adopt the same approach.
Kids, make sure to ask the school dieticians if they can start a similar program.
